Driver’s License Questions Below?

Question by : Driver’s License questions below?
I live in Florida. I’m 18 and do not have either a license or a permit.

1. I took the Drug & Alcohol Abuse Course online when I was 15 , about 3 years ago. Do I have to retake it? How long does it stay in the DMV’s system? Does it expire after a certain amount of time?

2. I also took the exam for getting your Learner’s Permit when I was 15 and passed the test but was not given the permit because I had dropped out of highschool, about 3 years ago. Do I have to take it again as well?

Thank you, in advance.

I tried to answer your other question before you deleted it so here’s the answer to your previous question.

1. People 18 and over would not need to get a learner’s permit to take the driver’s test. Getting a learner’s permit is completely optional for people 18 and over. However, in order to practice your driving on the open road, you would need a permit for that. If you decide to get a permit, you can hold it as long (or as short) as you want. You are not required to hold it for a year. There’s no waiting period for people 18 and over.

2. Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve always heard that when you take these tests, they stay in the system for a year. However, I’m not sure about that. I’ve never had to chance to confirm that myself. Remember, you can contact ANY DMV (or any Tax Collector’s office that handles driver’s license services) within the state to get an answer to that. You are not limited to Miami-Dade County. I live in Broward County and I used to call to Orlando or Jacksonville to get answers because no office in South Florida actually answers there phones. There’s a possibility you may have to retake it. Again, there’s a possibility that you will have to retake it.

3. Again, I’m not sure about that. When you go to the DMV tell them you took it and passed. Generally, once you pass the written exam, you wouldn’t have to take it again. However, I’ve never heard of anyone waiting 3 years after they took the test. This type of situation is new to me. As I said before, I’ve been told that it says in there system for a year. However, I’m not sure of how accurate that information is.

4. If you have a learner’s permit, you do not have to take the written exam again. They wouldn’t have issued you a permit if you hadn’t passed the written exam. If you have a permit, you would just have to take the driving test.

5. The driving test includes a quick stop, straight-in parking, a 3-point turn, and (possibly) reversing. There’s one question the instructor will ask. “What do you do when parking on a hill or slope?”
There’s no parallel parking on the Florida driving test.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to email me. =)
