Five Easy Ways to Create a Drug Addict – This was a speech I prepared for Toastmasters last night, six minutes in length. It may be hard to duplicate all the sound track so here is the speech as it was written: You might not think that you have the ability to create a drug addict but I assure you that you do. Millions of people with no more qualifications than you have are doing it every single day. You’ll master this ability in no time. By the time we are done tonight, you’ll be a pro. Let’s talk about the first way to create a drug addict. Let’s talk about alcohol use. That’s just a rite of passage. What teenager doesn’t drink a little…or maybe a lot. Didn’t we all drink when we were young? Isn’t puking in the bushes just part of being young? And drinking and driving… as long as the majority of them get home in one piece, who are they hurting? So you’ve got a teenager who’s drinking…well, just tell them to drink responsibly. Second, you’ve got to have some trust. If you find a bag of marijuana or prescription drugs in your child’s backpack, don’t worry. They probably really were carrying it for a friend. After all, this is your child.. you know them. You can believe them, right? Or if your son or daughter calls from the police station after being arrested for possession of cocaine or speed, why should you doubt that it was just their first time? Do you really know any different? Go ahead and bail them out of jail. They’ll get it together, just like they are promising. And they’ll finally get a job and …
