Florida’s Pill Problem Part One of Two Parts
Florida’s Pill Problem Part One of Two Parts – The following documentary, entitled “Florida’s Pill Problem — A Prescription for Controversy ” was created by mass communications students at the University of South Florida and aired on WEDU February 6th 2011. The documentary details the problems Florida is facing with respect to opiate pain medication. This documentary not only shows the perils that can arise from drug abuse but also details the legitimate need for pain medication in certain circumstances. The documentary is broken into three sections — the “good,” the “bad,” and the “legal.” Two pain patients are interviewed — one of whom eventually became addicted to pain medication while the other has been able to resume work thanks to the relief he was granted. A pain management physician, Dr. David VanDercar from the Tampa Pain Clinic is also interviewed in the documentary — Dr. VanDercar is board certified in pain management and addictionology and has fellowships in pain management, biofeedback and behavioral medicine. Other professionals were also interviewed, including a pharmacist, an attorney and an undercover cop. The Tampa Pain Clinic has digitized this documentary and placed it on our YouTube account so that it is more easily accessible for those who missed the February showing.
