Hi and Sallam
Before I say anything else let me say that I’d like to hear the advice of all cultures and religions but please be respectful in what you say.
I was born in a Muslim family and so was denoted a “muslim”. I have always been proud of it but I never have been a true muslim, a true worshiper of God. I am 21 years old and a uni student.
I have been addicted to po*nography and masturbation for over 5 years. I have thought a lot about how it started, how it developed and how I can escape from its claws. I have tried many things such as joining a forum and giving daily reports of my situation, doing the SCF course online and consulting with a mentor via email , talking to the priest at my university’s church (as we don’t have a major mosque in our city).
I could maximumly avoid or withstand the problem for 30 or so days and then I would fail again. I am desperate for the right solution.
My question is mainly pointed towards porn addicts in recovery and/or those who have broken the chains and walk in freedom:
1) How or Why did you want to break free? I mean does something crazy have to happen to me (like divorce, or close family’s death etc.) before I will wake up?
2) How did you walk towards freedom? I mean after taking the first step, how do you control your NAFS to live consistently in this routine?
3) Did you do it alone?
I have so many jumbled thoughts in my mind that I can’t even chanel them into a decent question or statement. I hope I haven’t tired you with this and would appreciate any help you could provide. The more detailed and specific it is the more it will help me. May Allah show mercy to all those who have lost their ways like myself and may Allah bless all those who come in aid.

Do you have internet access ? If so, get rid of it immediately. That may seem rash, but I assure you that it’s a necessary step.
Also, find a mature christian ( preferably your own gender ) who you can trust ( Trust part also very important ) to talk to regularly about it and pray for and with you.
I can assure you that you’re not alone. Every man struggles with lust, and many men struggle with porn.
Also, don’t let Satan lie to you and tell you it’s not that big a deal and that God is somehow ok with it.
