It’s pronounced Mara-beth (Mar-a). She’s going to go by Mara.
The surname is going to be Ryan. It’s for a twenty-five-year-old girl who takes care of her younger five siblings in a ghetto area – not sure where yet. Still trying to figure it out. She’s been caring for them all since the day they were all born since their mom, who used to be cool, slowly went a little crazy and killed herself. The dad is now in jail but he was absent a lot – drinking, drugs, gambling. Got into bad places with bad people. He used to be the leader of the neighborhood “crew” back when he was younger but lost respect from people when he started abusing his family and taking advantage of Mara, his firstborn. He used to adore her but then started losing his way and got more involved with bad people and eventually just became a jerk.
Mara legally emancipated herself at sixteen after dropping out of high school junior year to care for her siblings. She became the legal guardian of them at eighteen by pure luck and a lot of help from a law enforcement buddy. She falls in love with a handsome guy from a completely different world than hers – wealthy, privileged, advantaged. He was selfish in the beginning but she “forces” him to start thinking about others. He falls for her also and encourages her to get her GED and take classes at a community college for herself.
She works various different jobs. Bartending, waitress, mechanic, babysitting, maid, etc. Whatever to get money for the house and the kids and bills and everything else.
