In most states these centers process newly incarcerated inmates for assignment to a permanent population in one of the designated prison systems maintained throughout a state penal system. They can also provide for a community release center treatment program in a less “prison oriented” atmosphere.

Processing in one of these centers includes prison orientation, educational, psychiatric and medical testing, risk assessment, AIDS testing and a drug education program. Read more...
